Embassy of Switzerland in Lebanon
Solidarity above all
Here comes the summer of 2021 and the celebration of our national day coming up… again on “missione1agosto.org”!
Fortunately, innovative and creative solutions allow us to come together even in COVID-19 times! “Mission August 1st” is an initiative that unites Switzerland lovers on a digital platform where all kinds of activities are offered.
From Lebanon, we invite you to discover our personalized page which contains:
- the message of our ambassador Monika Schmutz Kirgöz

We encourage you to remember, on this occasion, one of the fundamental and unifying values of Switzerland: human solidarity.
As you know, the country of the Cedar is undergoing an unprecedented socio-economic crisis. This crisis was coupled with the terrible explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020.
Switzerland immediately showed solidarity. In total, Switzerland committed USD 6 million to help Lebanon overcome the explosion. This post-blast response is in addition to Switzerland’s long-term efforts to support vulnerable groups of all nationalities in Lebanon. Swiss aid to Lebanon amounts to more than USD 20 million per year.
Not only does human solidarity take on its full meaning in the difficult context of Lebanon, but it also applies to the terrible pandemic that has been affecting us all for almost two years. Indeed, despite the physical distance, the strengthening of human ties has only grown!
It is on this note of hope that we would like to wish everyone a beautiful summer 2021 and a very nice August 1st celebration!
